In this one-day seminar, you will learn about current issues confronting the accounting profession

  • Blue-Ribbon Panel recommendation on private company accounting standards
  • An update from PCAOB on registration and inspection procedures and recent Concept Releases on audit reporting and auditor independence
  • Tax accounting methods and uncertain positions
  • An update on the latest corporate and individual tax legislation
  • Development of indirect rates for nonprofit entities

 

The annual George Mason University Tax & Accounting Symposium provides a forum for accountants, auditors, audit committee members, corporate attorneys, CFOs, and members of academia to hear first hand from expert speakers about the latest trends in accounting and auditing. This year’s conference will be held in conjunction with the Northern Chapter VSCPA. The Chapter’s monthly meeting will follow the afternoon session. Some of the topics addressed in this year’s conference are:

Recommendation of the Blue-Ribbon Panel’s recommendations on Standard Setting for Private Companies and the FASB's projects on goodwill impairment and assessing the needs of private company financial statement users.

A PCAOB update including a discussion of the registration and inspections, the Concept Release on the Auditor's Reporting Model, and the Concept Release on Auditor Independence and Audit Firm Rotation.

 

 

An overview of Tax Accounting Methods and Uncertain Tax Positions and an update on individual and corporate tax legislation.

A conceptual and practical discussion of developing indirect rates for not-for-profits receiving federal grants and rate types such as fringe, occupancy, local overhead, general and administrative.

 

Participants in the conference will have an opportunity to meet the Virginia Ethics CPE requirement by attending the optional afternoon ethics session.

Recent regulations and tax update (4 CPE credits, $65)

Afternoon Concurrent Sessions:
Session 3. Virginia Ethics Course only (2 Credits, $65)
Session 4. Indirect cost rates for nonprofits (2 CPE credits, $30)
