He has always had an interest in real estate development and has been actively involved in his condo association, specifically determining ways to add value to his development. He would like to combine his interests, his experience studying finance, and his volunteer work to develop commercial properties and living communities.
Butler selected Mason because of his positive experience with Professor John Crockett as a finance undergraduate and because he would like to work in real estate development in the Northern Virginia market.
Nicole Lane is a graduate of Clemson University with a BA in Spanish and international trade and a concentration in travel and tourism. She currently works as a senior administrative assistant, Acquisitions and Development at Host Hotels and Resorts, which develops hotels in transitioning urban areas in the U.S. and Brazil. Prior to her work with Host Hotels she worked with Starwood Hotels and Resorts.
Lane selected the Mason real estate program because of the "strength of the partnership with the Northern VA Chapter of NAIOP and the opportunity for students to network in the field," and because of the interdisciplinary nature of the curriculum. One day she hopes to work with an economic development authority or convention and visitors bureau to responsibly plan the growth of cities.
Matthew Marquart is a recent George Mason School of Management graduate who earned his BS in finance and was the 2011 class winner of the Mason Business School Case Study Competition. While studying finance during his undergraduate career, Marquart enjoyed his real estate elective courses the most, and therefore has decided to pursue his master's degree in real estate.
He selected Mason because of his, "positive experience as an undergraduate and because of the opportunity to meet real world professionals at the information session which validated the weight of the degree in the industry." Marquart hopes to use the degree as a stepping stone into the industry, specifically in development and planning.
Stephen Myers is a history graduate from the University of Maryland University College. He works as a referral specialist at Rosenberg & Associates ensuring accuracy in mortgage/loan documents. Prior to his work with Rosenberg & Associates, Myers worked as a paralegal.
Myers hopes to utilize the master's degree to obtain a position with a local real estate development company and gain a greater understanding of finance, planning, and construction. He selected the Mason program because of "the program's multifaceted approach and faculty connection to the industry."
Cassie Schupp earned her BS in behavior science from Drew University. She works with her family company, Park Street Development Corporation/Schupp Companies as an assistant property manager for the properties located in Arlington and Leesburg.
