Consistently recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the most diverse universities in the U.S., George Mason University received the Institute of International Education’s 5th Annual Andrew Heiskell Award for its work to internationalize the campus. Mason students represent over 130 different countries and all 50 states.
This diversity at the university level is clearly reflected in both the School of Management (SOM) student body and faculty. More than forty percent of SOM’s 80 full-time faculty members are of international origin and are multilingual. At least forty percent of SOM’s student body identifies themselves as Asian American, African American, Hispanic or Latino American, Native American, or Nonresident Alien. Seven percent of SOM’s student body is of international origin.
Through the Office of Diversity Programs and Services (ODPS), Mason promote students’ overall success (academic, social and personal) in its highly diverse campus community, with specific attention to students with diverse backgrounds and/or life experiences (such as students from diverse ethnic, cultural, gender, sexual orientation and socio-economic backgrounds).
The School of Management holds an annual diversity conference entitled Workplace Diversity: Practice and Research. The conference is spearheaded by management professor and area chair, David Kravitz. The central goal of the conference is to further collaborative initiatives in diversity business education among executives, academicians, and researchers.
