The School of Management's Office of Academic and Career Services has launched CareerPlus, a new program aimed at better preparing students for job interviews through training modules and mock interviews.
The program guides students through six different components which provide information on the entire job search process from creating and perfecting a résumé and cover letter to developing interview skills. Many of the components offer in-person and online options to accommodate students' busy schedules. Students who complete all six components receive a certificate of completion.
"Students can then mention that they have completed the CareerPlus program on their résumé and let employers know they have taken extra measures to prepare themselves for the job search process," explains Jan Ward, academic advisor and co-chair of the CareerPlus Initiative Committee. "We have presented the program to the School of Management's Accounting Advisory Council, accounting employers, and accounting faculty, and they were all very receptive to it."
Members of the Accounting Advisory Council include representatives from many of the major employers in the area, including Grant Thorton, Baker Tilly, and KPMG. Future collaboration with the Advisory Council may include having a practice interview day with current members who include representatives from Grant Thorton, Baker Tilly, and KPMG, among others.
Though the program is currently being piloted with accounting students, students from all majors are welcome to participate.
