Oxford Residency a Unique Learning Experience for Executive MBA Class

In March the EMBA Class 2011 embarked on a one-week residency at Mansfield College at Oxford University, one of the world’s premier academic institutions. Mansfield is a young college in Oxford terms, about one hundred and twenty five years old.

The Oxford Residency provides the opportunity for Mason Executive MBA students to learn about doing business in the European Union (EU) and includes presentations by Oxford faculty, senior managers and directors, and discussions with EU government officials. Students also spent time in London at EU regulatory agencies and multinational corporations.

"No matter how good the classroom curriculum, there's nothing like the first-hand experience of visiting a different country and experiencing different ways to conduct business," says Roy Hinton, Associate Dean of Executive Programs at George Mason University School of Management. "Embracing another culture means respecting others' viewpoints and working within the boundaries of those cultures."

The Oxford residency is one of four extended residencies in which all Executive MBA students participate. In addition to Oxford, students spend time in New York, Washington, D.C., and one other global residency that rotates among countries in Asia, Europe, and South America.
