SOM Celebrates International Corporate Philanthropy Day

The Fairfax County Chamber and George Mason University School of Management celebrated the wide range of diverse corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives of the Northern Virginia Business community on International Corporate Philanthropy Day 2011, which was February 28. From helping the hungry and homeless to supporting education and career development, engaging in sustainability projects and much more, businesses in Fairfax County are committed to the community in which they operate.

“International Corporate Philanthropy Day is a great opportunity to recognize the many ways businesses in Northern Virginia are outstanding community stewards,” said Fairfax County Chamber President & CEO Jim Corcoran. “Not only do these companies make a tremendous economic footprint, bringing jobs and resources to the area, but they ensure Fairfax County remains a quality place to live and work – not just on International Corporate Philanthropy Day, but 365 days a year.”

“Businesses in Fairfax County are uniquely integrated into the community and we are proud to be part of that community and support International Corporate Philanthropy Day,” said Jorge Haddock, dean of George Mason University School of Management. “It is important to recognize the selfless activities that businesses in the area do that directly and positively impact the quality of life of Fairfax County residents.”

Led by Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy, International Corporate Philanthropy Day is held each year on the fourth Monday in February to build awareness of corporate-community partnerships and to inspire businesses around the world to engage further in philanthropy. The Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce and Mason are proud to support this important day.
