The Mason baseball team had one of its most successful seasons in 2009 and one-third of the players were School of Management students. Team stars Chris Henderson, Scott Krieger, Mike Modica, and Shane Davis were a few of the SOM students that were honored at season’s end.
Chris Henderson (left), BS in marketing, was named by the Virginia Sports Information Directors in July as the 2009 Virginia Player of the Year. He also earned Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) honors as Co-Player of the year with Scott Krieger. Henderson hit .413, is the first Mason baseball player named to the All-American first team, and was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is currently playing third base with the Arizona Dodgers in the Arizona League.
Scott Krieger was named Mason’s Male Athlete of the Year and was a second team All-American. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers and is currently playing with the Helena Brewers of the Pioneer League.
Michael Modica, BS in finance, another second team All-American, had a pitching record of 11-2 with an ERA of 4.34. He was drafted by the Houston Astros and is pitching for the Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York-Penn League.
Shane Davis, BS in marketing, also named to the All-American second team as the designated hitter, had a .323 batting average with six homers, 12 doubles and 29 RBI in 164 at-bats.
Other SOM students that contributed to the team’s great 2009 season were finance majors Mark Hill, Darren McLean, Daniel Palumbo, Benjamin Reade, Josh Steinberg and Joshua Turner and undecided business majors Ryan Pfaeffle and John Tison. |
