Profile:

Mahesh P. Joshi is an associate professor of management at the School of Management. He received his PhD in strategic management and international management from Temple University. Prior to receiving his PhD, he received a BS in mathematics and operations research from Bombay University (Mumbai, India) and also obtained a post graduate diploma in international business from Xavier Institute of Management, Mumbai, India.

Joshi's research interests include spread of new technology and its relationship to strategic change in an organization as well as links between new technologies and the phenomenon of corporate entrepreneurship. In the past, he has focused on manufacturing firms but his recent focus has been on technology service organizations (TSOs). Additionally, he has researched in the area of business continuity planning, corporate governance, global strategy, and deregulation of telecom firms.

Joshi has published articles in many journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Long Range Planning, Journal of Operations Management, Corporate Governance, Corporate Reputation Review, Journal of International Management, International Journal of Production Research, Service Industries Journal, Management Decision Journal, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, International Entrepreneurship & Management Journal, Competitive Intelligence Review, New England Journal of Entrepreneurship, Asian Academy of Management Journal, International Journal of Operations and Quantitative Management, Journal of Business & Economics Studies, International Journal of Organizational Analysis, Journal of Current Research in Global Business, and Journal of Management Education.

Joshi is also actively involved in reviewing academic research work for many journals, including Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of International Management, New England Journal of Entrepreneurship, and Production and Operations Management Journal. He has also been on the editorial board of New England Journal of Entrepreneurship.

Joshi has a wide variety of teaching interests. These include, Basics of Strategic Management, Advanced Industry Analysis, Introduction to Entrepreneurship, Developing e-Business Strategies, International Business, Global Strategies, Managing Change, Consulting Management, Principles of Management, Developing Business Models and Cross-cultural Management. He has been teaching these courses across all levels of students that include undergraduate, graduate, and executive students. The George Mason Executive MBA class of 2007 recognized him with the "Teacher of Year" Award in 2007.

Between his undergraduate and graduate degrees, Joshi worked for six years in the field of international management and conducted business in several countries. He has provided consulting to both small and large businesses concerning the role of technology in strategic planning and strategy implementation with a particular focus on e-business strategies and globalization. Several foreign firms have retained him as a consultant when they plan to enter the U.S. market.

Joshi has been assisting a professional organization with its needs concerning the executive training of its members in the field of strategic management. Besides consulting and education, he has been an entrepreneur and is involved with starting two "dot com” firms over the last 15 years.
