Gradfest is an annual tradition at George Mason University. Come join your fellow classmates and take part in all the Gradfest 2013 activities. Gradfest is a series of fun events designed to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of Mason graduates. Events are open to seniors and graduate students to encourage them to look ahead to becoming Mason alumni and build a lifelong relationship with their Alma Mater.

GradFest activities are a collaborative effort coordinated by University Life and a university-wide committee of staff and students. In addition, the Alumni Association and Career Services coordinate several activities designed to send graduates off on the right path.

Convocation is the School of Management’s graduation ceremony held every May. Convocation will be held this year on Friday, May 17.

  • Students walk across the stage when their names are called, shake hands with the Dean and have their pictures taken.

Commencement is the university-wide graduation ceremony held every May. Commencement will be held this year on Saturday, May 18.

  • Students do not walk across the stage, but rather stand up at their seats with all other SOM graduates to be recognized.

Gradfest is an annual tradition at George Mason University. Come join your fellow classmates and take part in all the Gradfest 2013 activities. Gradfest is a series of fun events designed to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of Mason graduates. Events are open to seniors and graduate students to encourage them to look ahead to becoming Mason alumni and build a lifelong relationship with their Alma Mater.

Highlights of Gradfest are:

April 20th:  Mason Takes Over Kings Dominion (Tickets are $20 for the first 1000 and may be purchased in the Office of Student Involvement).

April 25th:  Passport to the Future Graduate Transition Fair (snacks, prizes, and information to help our students prepare for life after graduating), JC North Plaza 11am-2pm.

May 10th:  Mason at the Washington Nationals: The Nats take on the Cubs! (Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in the Office of Student Involvement).

May 15th:  A Graduation Celebration: “A Toast to Our Graduates” is the last event of Gradfest.  Graduating students will experience an official welcome from the George Mason Alumni Association. The event will crescendo with a toast and photograph in front of the George Mason statue. Graduating students will receive a commemorative champagne flute as a gift. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. (RSVP required - http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GradFESTCelebration).

May 20-24th:  Just-in-Time Hiring Week, Alumni Answer Week, Career Launch (Career programming for recent graduates offered through University Career Services).

Students are encouraged to take this opportunity to register for Mason CareerLink.

As you work toward your academic and professional goals it is important to network and learn about industries of interest. Mason Career Link is a database of alumni accessible to both students and alumni through HireMason under the networking tab. Users may search for alumni by career, major, company or job title. Alumni offer help with resume critiques, mock interviews, shadowing experiences, informational interviewing, or simply answering questions. Mason Career Link allows you to ask a fellow Patriot about their experience, network, and get advice.

Scholarships
The Alumni Association is pleased to offer five scholarships ranging between $1,500 and $2,500 to deserving undergraduate and graduate students. These scholarships are traditionally awarded to students who display academic merit, demonstrated leadership, community service, and commitment to George Mason University. The Alumni Association scholarship application is now online! Golden Quill Society
Now in its third year, The Golden Quill Society inspires continued leadership among a select group of young alumni by facilitating the transition from student leadership to young alumni engagement. Through the auspices of volunteer leadership and philanthropy, the Golden Quill Society builds a lifelong connection between George Mason University and a core group of dedicated alumni. Students in their senior year are invited to apply for the Golden Quill Society and will remain a part of the society for the four years immediately following graduation. Ivy Zelman, an alumna from George Mason’s School of Management and Chief Executive Officer of Zelman & Associates, will serve as the school’s 2012 convocation speaker. Zelman graduated in 1990 with a BS in accounting and holds over 20 years of experience covering housing and housing-related industries.

Founded in 2007, Zelman & Associates utilizes unmatched industry contacts and financial analyses to deliver unbiased, proprietary research on the housing sector. Prior to founding Zelman & Associates, Zelman worked at Credit Suisse Group, Salomon Brothers, and Ernst & Young. In 2011, Zelman was inducted into the Institutional Investor Hall of Fame, which includes a select team of analysts that have been given first place rankings for 10 years or more.

Zelman is frequently quoted in The Wall Street Journal and New York Times and often appears as a guest on CNBC. Zelman is often tapped to address audiences of housing and homebuilding related forums and conferences for her highly respected views and insights.
