New Laptop Requirements for SOM Students!

August 30, 2011

Academic Services, General

Be advised starting Fall 2011 all SOM students will be required to have a laptop or access to a laptop with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007.  This mandatory requirement will start this fall as some of the SOM courses may require laptop use in class.  In others like SOM 301, when a lab was provided in the past, students will need the laptop to take the class.  Additional requirements are as follows:

Components:

  1. Processor:  2.3 GHz dual processors (recommended) / 2.3 GHz (min. requirements)
  2. Memory: 2 GB (recommended) / 1 GB (min. requirements)
  3. Hard Drive Capacity: 150 GB (recommended)  / 80 GB (min. requirements)
  4. Network Capability:  Built-in 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN (with RJ-45 connector)

Some pretty high requirements for laptops in my opinion. 2.3 Ghz processor and 150Gb hard drive is high. Why these high requirements?
