The School of Management (SOM) educates future business leaders through world-class teaching, innovative academic programs and strategic business partnerships. With the SOM curricula and research rooted in entrepreneurship, corporate governance and global business education, the school prepares students for increased globalization through a range of academic programs and international alliances. Mason’s SOM is one of only 10 percent of business schools worldwide accredited in both business and accounting by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. The school is also ranked in the top 15 percent of all AACSB accredited business schools by U.S. News & World Report.
SOM’s location in Northern Virginia, one of the most important technology corridors in the country and minutes from the nation’s capital, offers access to an extensive national and international network including federal policymakers, government officials, business leaders, distinguished faculty, and cutting-edge research. SOM is distinctly integrated in the region with a majority of our nearly 22,000 alumni residing in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
Yearly recruiting and networking events attract hundreds of prominent companies that use SOM as a recruiting ground. With close ties to area companies and organizations, SOM hosts more than 100 business leaders to serve as capstone competition judges and guest lecturers. More than 100 area business leaders also serve as advisors on SOM’s boards and councils.
More than 3,550 undergraduate students are enrolled in SOM and pursuing majors in accounting, finance, management, marketing, or information systems and operations management. More than 480 graduate students are enrolled in the Mason MBA, the Executive MBA, the MS in accounting, and the MS in technology management programs. At the graduate level, the School of Management is one of only six business schools in the country to require international residences for its graduate students.
SOM faculty, with expertise on topics such as corporate governance, entrepreneurship, technology management, and e-commerce, bring both theoretical and applied expertise to the classroom. Faculty members have provided expert testimony before nearly every federal agency and have served as consultants to organizations such as NASDAQ, the FDIC and the Department of Defense.
