APPLY TO BS STATUS

Students entering the School of Management (SOM) are initially designated as "pre-business" until successfully completing the SOM application requirements and obtaining bachelor of science "BS" degree status.

Application to the School of Management''s bachelor of science degree programs is in addition to the George Mason University''s admissions process. After acceptance to Mason, students who wish to pursue a major in accounting (ACCT), information systems and operations management (ISOM), finance (FNAN), management (MGMT), or marketing (MKTG) must submit a separate application to the School of Management.

1. Successfully complete at least 48 credits with at least 9 credits earned at Mason.
2. Earn a cumulative GPA of 2.500 at the end of the semester of application. If you attended other higher education institutions your cumulative GPA is recalculated to include all institutions attended.
3. Successfully complete the following application courses with a grade of "C" or higher:
   • MATH 108 (Prerequisite: must pass Math placement exam or tutorial program)
   • ACCT 203 (Prerequisite: "C" or higher in ECON 103)
   • OM 210 (Prerequisite: "C" or higher in MATH 108)
   • SOM 301 (Prerequisite: sophomore standing; Corequisites: ACCT 203 and OM 210)
4. Earn Mason cumulative and semester GPA`s of at least 2.00 at the end of the semester of application.

Students must submit their formal application to the School of Management before the deadline of the semester they are completing the requirements listed above. The deadlines are: 

Students are responsible for the application requirements at time of application to SOM and should check this website for changes to the requirements. The requirements are not related to the student’s catalog year.

• Know your cumulative GPA. If you are a transfer student and you do not know how to calculate your cumulative GPA to include all institutions attended, we have provided a calculator to help determine your GPA click here. If your cumulative GPA is not 2.500 or higher, you should consult with an academic advisor about your options.
• Obtain an application form online, or at the Office of Academic and Career Services in Enterprise Hall, Room 008.
• Applications should be mailed or hand delivered by the deadline to:

• During the semester you are applying you can pre-register for major courses to be taken in the next semester.
• If you pre-registered for major courses and did not get accepted into the School of Management, you will need to adjust your next semester schedule by withdrawing from all major courses.
• Students are notified of the decision about their admission by mail approximately two weeks after grades are posted.
• If you did not get accepted to SOM because your cumulative GPA was below 2.500, we encourage you to use Wichita State website to calculate how many credits and at what level you will need to earn in order to bring your GPA up to the 2.500 necessary for admission.
